Ann Arbor, Michigan | Intimate December wedding at Sava's | Rachel + LJ

Rachel and LJ’s intimate wedding in Ann Arbor, Michigan was the PERFECT way to end 2019. For the end of December, it was in the 40’s and sunny which was WONDERFUL! Especially since the hotel, church and Sava’s were all within a few blocks of each other.

I asked Rachel about how her and LJ met and about their first date. “We started hanging out as friends two years ago, both of us having huge crushes on each other the whole time. I think we count a few different first dates: the first time we hung out as friends with big crushes was when we went to see The Last Jedi and had sushi together afterward. The first time that really felt like a date was another movie/sushi date (Black Panther and the Slurping Turtle), and the date where we finally talked about the feelings we had for each other was at Aut Bar. All of those times, we both felt so attracted to each other, and talking with each other felt so natural and right, that even though we weren't officially "dating" for a lot of them, they feel important.”

I also asked Rachel about their proposal, “ I accidentally mentioned the word "married" in relation to LJ during a conversation with our friends Christina and Steve, pretty early in our relationship (we had a Very Serious Conversation about it later that evening). I always felt like being married was where this was headed, and after about five or six months we both felt that way. LJ wanted to be the one to propose. She had mentioned to me that she didn't think she could afford the ring until after we moved in together in February 2019, so I was really surprised and delighted when she proposed (with ring) right around Christmas 2018, while we were just hanging around together at her apartment.”
