Friday Fives with Sydney Marie Photography | Wedding Q+A
Happy Friday!
I love answering questions about photography and weddings. Here’s five recent questions I’ve been asked!
What got you into photography? Long story short, my cousin got me into photography! After I went to Europe with People to People, my cousin Melissa would rave about my photos. She said I had the eye for it and should really explore it, so I did. I took a photography class in high school and enrolled in college at GVSU majoring in photography with a minor in advertising.
What got you into wedding photography? It was honestly a natural progression from the previous question. My cousin and I would go to local punk shows in the basement of a church down the road from her house. I started photographing bands and one of the bands I photographed often, the lead singer and his girlfriend were getting married and asked me to be their photographer. This was way back in 2012 and I haven’t looked back, weddings just bring me so much joy.
What sets you apart from other photographers? There are so many photographers out there, it can be overwhelming. With me, I only take a limited amount of weddings every year to give the best client experience. With that experience you get: the knowledge of 8 years in the wedding industry and over 200 weddings photographed, quick email replies, a client portal with comprehensive and detailed engagement and wedding day questionnaires, quick turn around for photos, sneak peeks and more. Want more info? Here’s five tips for hiring the right photographer for you.
I just got engaged, when should I be looking for a photographer? Ideally you should be looking for a photographer as soon as you have your date and venue set. I personally book most of my weddings 10-18 months in advance, so the sooner the better if you want to book a specific photographer. As an extra tip - here’s five questions to ask a wedding photographer.
What’s your favorite part of a wedding day to photograph? Such a good question!! My personal favorite part of the day to photograph is the intimate moments between the couple after they get married - when it’s just the two of them. It’s a moment for them to relax and just enjoy the fact that they are married. It’s completely candid and always makes me smile.
