5 Getting Ready Tips

Your wedding day is almost here, YAY! I want to make sure you start of your day right, your getting ready time really sets the tone for the rest of the day. Here' are my top 5 tips for your getting ready time.

Be comfortable

Being comfortable can mean a few different things, it’s really up to your personal feelings of being comfortable. My top suggestions are to wear something you feel comfortable in while you’re getting ready. If you have a big wedding party with multiple people getting their hair and makeup done - you’re going to be sitting around for a while.

Another form of comfort is organization and a clutter free area. If this is you, I’d suggest setting up separate areas for the hang out/getting ready area and a place for everyone’s bags. Bonus to having a clean area to get ready in is that there won’t be any clutter in your photos!

Have food/drinks

I know this should be obvious, but that’s why it’s on this list. Your wedding day is a LONG day, staying hydrated and putting fuel in your body is going to get you through the day. Finger food or food that isn’t super messy is definitely best, such as a charcuterie board or sandwiches. (In the Grand Rapids area? Check out Say Cheese GR!)

Pack your essentials in advance

If you haven’t checked out my wedding day essentials list, go check it out! I will say over and over again, anything can happen on a wedding day and it’s best to be prepared for it. Make sure you also have all your jewelry and accessories ready to go too. If it helps you make a list and double check that list, do it! Anything to help leaving something behind that you may or may not be able to get.

Details ready for photographer

Going with your essentials should be any details you want your photographer to photograph when they arrive. Items can include: all your rings, jewelry, accessories, invitation suite, program, flowers, veil or any heirlooms that are important to you. Having everything all in one spot makes it so much easier for the photographer to grab and go with photos.

Give yourself enough time and enjoy it!

SERIOUSLY! Enjoy every moment of your wedding day, especially your getting ready time. Enjoy the people around you and how exciting it is to be finally marrying the love of your life.

Add some extra time into your timeline during your getting ready time, just in case something runs a little late. Having a little padding in time helps reduce potential stressful situations. If everything runs smoothly, you’ll have extra time to just hang out with your friends or get some extra photos taken.

Bonus tip: If you’re having someone help you get ready, make sure they are dressed and ready to go before hand. Also make sure they are aware they are helping you and know how to get you dressed.
