5 Tips for Flatlays | Friday Fives with Sydney Marie Photography
What are flat lays? A flatlay is a styled image without people in the photo – for weddings it’s the couples details that showcase the wedding colors and their accessories. Flat lays are a nice way to bring together your details, help define the mood and to help set the story of your wedding day all in one photo.
Here's a few tips on how to help your photographer with your wedding day flat lay photos.
1. Let your photographer know before your wedding day your wedding colors.
This is so they can coordinate ribbon, a background, and extra details to add to the photo. Most photographers have a styling kit they bring with them to really make your flat lay photos extra special.
2. Contact your florist and ask for some extra stems and greenery for styling.
I have found most florists are more than happy to give a few extras at no charge. That way your photographer can add in some of the florals of your wedding day without having to use your bouquet in the photos.
3. Have your items set aside and ready to go for when your photographer arrives.
This is probably one of the most important tips, having your details together and ready for your photographer saves time. If you’re not ready for photos, your photographer can take the detail photos without having to interrupt any hair and makeup going on.
4. Items to include:
· Invitation suite
· Save the dates
· Ceremony program
· Rings
· Any other jewelry you're wearing
· Ring box (if you bought one)
· Any sentimental items
· Shoes
· Cufflinks
· Bouquet/boutonniere
· Veil
5. Keep it simple.
There’s a ton of beautiful and extravagant flat lay photos all over the internet. Your lay flat photos are representing your wedding, not someone else. Don’t feel like you have to have everything you see in inspiration photos, you do you – and it will be beautiful!
