Muskegon, Michigan | Summer Wedding at The Lake House
Mary and Steve’s summer wedding in Muskegon, Michigan was one of my favorites from 2021. From their engagement session, I knew that their wedding day was going to be a blast.
The day started at their home where everyone was getting ready. Steve also proposed to Mary in this house, on the first weekend they moved in, so incorporating it into their photos was so special. After everyone was ready, Mary and Steve had their first look in their backyard before heading off to Unity Reformed Church for the ceremony.
Mary and Steve’s ceremony included the Indian traditions of the thali and manthrakodi. The thaali is a leaf shaped pendant with a small cross on it. The threads use to tie the Thaali are taken from the Manthrakodi. The Groom ties the Thaali around the neck of the bride. The Thaali symbolizes mutual trust, love and commitment, and thus signifies the stability and permanence of marriage. The Manthrakodi is a silk saree which is placed on the Bride's head by the Groom. It symbolizes the Groom's commitment to protect his wife, as well as a symbol of acceptance of the bride into the family of the groom.
After the ceremony, we took couples photos around Muskegon before heading to The Lakehouse for the reception. Downtown Muskegon has so many hidden gems for photos, one of our favorites from this day was actually Mary and Steve’s realtor’s office!
The Lake House is a fan favorite in Muskegon for weddings. Being right on Muskegon Lake, next to Shoreline Inn, and having amazing food - you can’t go wrong. Mary and Steve’s reception was full of so much love, laughter and a ton of fun. Including a family dance as a surprise for Mary, Steve definitely pulled off the dance moves!
