Winter Engagement session in Traverse City

Anne and Justin’s February engagement session in Traverse City was everything you hope for in a winter photoshoot: fresh snow, quiet streets, and that cozy Northern Michigan charm. Traverse City is one of my favorite places for engagement photos, especially in winter, when the downtown lights feel a little warmer and the shoreline takes on a peaceful calm. With their Petoskey wedding approaching, this session was the perfect way to document a special trip up north while they were visiting Michigan from Georgia.

We began the session at Mundos 305, a warm and modern café that made the perfect starting point before heading out into the snowfall. After that, we wandered through downtown Traverse City, taking advantage of the soft snowflakes, the quiet streets, and the classic charm that makes this area so timeless for engagement photos.

When we reached the historic State Theatre, something unexpected happened. The staff were in between showings and invited us inside, giving us the chance to capture intimate, cinematic portraits in the theater surrounded by its iconic red seats. It added such a unique moment to their gallery and felt like one of those perfectly timed surprises that make engagement sessions so special.

We wrapped up at Grand Traverse Commons, where the architecture offered even more variety. Throughout the entire session, Anne and Justin were effortless together. They were warm, kind, and so easy to photograph. Their connection made every location shine, and it was a joy to spend the afternoon with them.
